Being approachable in Business
Since I started Taylor Marketing, just over 6 months ago.. I’ve been saying pretty much every week - ‘I need to get some photos.’ I need to book a lifestyle photoshoot. I 100% understand the importance of getting profesh photos for your socials, ads, website, emails etc and I knew I needed them. My iphone is only gonna take me so far.
I kept putting it off. Because I was nervous AF.
I hate getting my photo taken..
I really dread getting my photo taken. I get uncomfortable. I don’t enjoy it. And the thought of booking a photoshoot, to be just about me.. made me feel so nervous. Which is crazy, like I can chat away on camera, talk in front of audiences of over 200 people, but I can’t handle a camera being pointed at me 🙈
Then I chatted recently with Alex about it. Alex and I are already friends and we know each other from the gym and I was telling him I needed photos but I didn’t feel comfortable going out with anyone. I was laughing about how nervous I would be and letting him know what he would be in for lol.
He was like let’s get out soon. Get you sorted.
In my head I was like, yeah… soon, I’ve got at least a month here to postpone or reschedule if it comes to it.
No. Out that Saturday. Off we went.
Meet at 7am yeah? Down to Titanic Quarter? See ya then!
Away we went.
I have to say, although I can admit I was stiff as anything, and needed A LOT of direction (I also needed reminded at least every 30 seconds to smile) I have to say I can’t believe how comfortable Alex made me feel.
Make yourself approachable
We had a really good laugh. Got some class class shots. Really good chats about a bunch of different things. But it all only happened and I went through with it because he was so approachable that day in the gym.
Finding people to work with is one thing, but approaching them about their services or product is another. Sometimes this can be tricky. I know personally I worry about wasting someone’s time. Especially if it’s something I’ll likely postpone because of nerves.
But I trusted Alex. I was able to chat to him freely about what it was I was worried about.
“Here, don’t show my missing tooth”
“Don’t let me tilt my head down so I have a double chin”
Stupid vain things really, but things I’m self-conscious about nonetheless.
It went pretty smoothly.
Before I even seen the photos (which by the way he had back to me, edited in a few hours which is mental!) I already wanted to get back in with him for another shoot. It was comfortable. I trusted him. I already knew what I could do better for the next time.
And I can’t believe it but I’m excited about it too!
It made me think.
Have a quick think.. are people comfortable reaching out to you?
It’s so important to make yourself approachable in business. If people aren’t comfortable reaching out to you, enquiring, or even seeing if you’re a right fit for them - then I suggest you figure that out quickly.
I’ll be honest, I do try my best to be approachable with all types of enquiries, DM’s etc.
On my social media accounts I am super open & honest, and my DM’s don’t stop and I love it. I want people to be comfortable reaching out to me. Asking for help. If I can help you I 100% will!
But I am going to make a conscious effort to make sure I am approachable.
On my socials. On the phone. In face to face situations. Even when I’m just out & about.
Got a question? I’m here & ready.
So if you have any questions at all, about anything digital marketing related - this is your invitation to get in touch with me. And I mean that.
You could offer the best service in the world, but if people aren’t comfortable with getting in touch with you then you’ll not get any sales.
So if I haven’t said it enough already.. take a second to think, how approachable am I right now? Could I improve it? Is it affecting my business? Am I already doing a great job? And if you are.. amazing. Keep being approachable. No matter what level your business gets to.
Thank You Alex for being approachable and making me feel comfortable. It was a fab experience & I can’t wait to get out again.
